It would be great to have something like this here on the reservation. I am a non native widow living in the home of my husband . When he passed away all of our money to pay bills went too. I have a small social security check which covers my transportation for me and my wheel chair, but not utilities, food , clothing or medications . I am diabetic my accucheck runs from the mid to high 1oo's to 419 recently. I have no one here to load my wheel chiar or have gas money to get to a dr 100 miles away in Gallup, NM. That is where i also have to go to the er as well.
I was told by IHS that i should not be using even the er for any reason, since i am non-navajo and have no cencus number of my tribe /Cherokee.
I need food, and water for drinking, cooking and laundry, "grand ma" pull ups, and other personal hygene items as well... Is there help out there some where. My dogs have not been fed in days and have started to try to kill the weaker ones so they dont eat the food that is available.... No food bank here, when there was one it was only junk food given out .
The project on the reservation is still funded by MY social security check, no one seems to want to help others.... So I am looking for a grant writer who can create a grant large enough to purchase properties, and create housing and provide transportation for homeless people that have diabetis and/or cancer. I have 2 locations in mind. One in Washington state and the other in Colorado... Now that my husband has passed over, i am now homeless since i cant have a home site least here on the rez and my grand daughter has been told by her mom [my daughter] not to help by paying the atty to get her name on the home site. The homesite can be claimed by anyone the house is mine legally. So i would have to move the house from the property or leave it to be taken over by the ones who were witnessed killing him.... but that is another big issue for me...
I have no medications, food, running water, or gas for my truck to travel 100 miles each way to make a dr appt, since my phone will not call long distance. I have quite a pickel here but i have dropped it in Gods lap, and i am sure he will do what he sees fit.... Thanks for your support and Prayers...

I totally agree!!!! Time to re-think our votes for sure on the next go-round!!!! I sure am, and i have voted the same ticket for many years, and now i am rethinking for the next elections. Especially on Native American Issues, and Medicare they seem to be getting drastic cuts that many do not know exist. Have a gooday everyone!!

I am writing this from Henderson, my sister is here, and we are at my daughters house. This is for a VISIT only. If i go into any kind of care home>> i loose all of my check and will not be able to keep up the bills or pay my truck off... I am too young /63 to allow myself to be put into a ware house yet. When i am so unable to do things for myself then that is another story. For now i need to get off the REZ, to have services and such for my needs medically and etc.
If i can get the attourney paid his $900 i can get the land thru probate, and then my grand daughter will have a home of her own. I do not choose to life there unless i have no choice.

My phone is off, co there is no calling until i can find money for the $300 bill and arrange to pay the balance as time passes...I dont even have gas money to get home since my daughter has backed out on me. You are so very right. I married into a Native American family, my husband was murdered and now i loose my home and everything I and he have vested for the last 20 years of ourl lives. There is NO assistance to re-locate me or assist me in any way. I am 63 and in a wheel chair with NO assistance except for my 19 yr old grand daughter who is also disabled and unable to focus on my needs . I need a place to go as well as a moving van, and some one to help pack boxes and load then later unload and put away>> this all cost lots of $$$$$$$$$$. which social security does not provide enough for my truck payment to carry my chair much less pay the dr or buy food or medication on the same check.... This is what i worked all my life was to starve and be medically neglected in my older years... Great life i guess...
Pat have you found anything on something new called a "homestead act". it is something that will relocate the handicapped and low vision folks to a home that is disability friendly and near medical care as well.. Information would be great.
Is this available in other states as well. I live on an indian reservation in AZ my husnband recently died, now i need to move some where i can have medical care since i cant get elder services out here.
I want to relocate into Utah or Nevada, any and all help is appreciated. recently won travel trailor on auction would anyone like to purchas it. Hello everyone, I am learning a very difficult and painful lesson from my husbands death at the beginning of this month. I have spoke to the local PD and was told since the autopsy listed exposure as the cause of death [extream cold], that they are not doing much for investigation his questionable death.I can not recieve a death certificate until all criminal investigations are completed.... I asked so if there is NO investigation, why is it the death certificate has not been released??? Nor will the criminal investigator find tine to speak with family members. In the mean time more and more people are saying things to me and other family members that have me convenced that his death was not because he was in the cold weather, but that he had help getting to where he was found.. Please Pray with me that the truth will come forward and those who did this to him will have to face a court of law. There needs to be new laws written for the murder victims and their rights to be treated as human beings with out being swept under the carpet. This is the 3rd victem at the same residence ... Please pray for me and my family who loved my husband as the loving father, grand father and generous man as he truly was...

Aub, I know things seem really desparite, soon you will find yourself in a better situation. I want to share a reality with you of a family memeber.
She spent 22 years in the world of drugs, and all that goes with it. She lost her 6 children who were adopted from her because she always found herself with needle marks and testing dirty. She found her self pregnant; joined a Meth Program and a beautiful blessing was given to her. This baby was her pride and joy after loosing all of her childeren, he was a 2nd chance at life> a real life.At the age of 2months he died of SIDS. She morned in drugs and alochol for the next few months until a friendly officer saw her at a convenient store purchasing another bottle of brandy, since she was still intoxicated from the other 4 still in her car. He also found her with drugs as well . He put her in jail. This was the best thing that happened to her because no one bailed her out. I got a letter that started of, Dear Mom, I am in Jail and i am grateful to be here. the judge has given me 90 days to decide wheater i want to go to prison or go to and complete rehab, which i have not been able to complete in the past.
She did a lot of thinking and I did a lot of praying.We prayed at our Native fire place for special prayers for our loved ones. At the end of the 90 days she was sentenced to " Athena House" for one year. She not only completed her 1 year she cleaned up as well. She voluntered , spoke at meetings etc as her time allowed.
She is now a transportation manager at a large company based back east. She was recently married and has recently moved into a new home.
It takes a lot of work, and hanging on,and going to meetings, and AA and NA friends and sponsors can be a lot of support if you do not have family near by to hepl support you. You might have to live in a shelter for a while, as you seek employment or education.You are reaching out for help, there is some one out there who will respond to you and give you the encouragement that you need.
School grants often include an allowance for housing , especially if you atend a school that has houseing. [ie: Dine' Collage]. You might also take
a look at the adds that offer room and board in exchange for work of some sort.You seem to have the right direction in mind, keep moving forward; it may be slow just know that you can do it and you will be a success story as well. You have no idea how proud i am of my daughter... I have only seen her once in 20+years. She is going to be my Valentine this year and a short visit as they go on their honey-moon... I hope you have a Great Holiday!! My youngest daughter is going with her son to serve the families who have no place to go. She is supposed to go and Cellebrate the holiday and a new house for her sister, but she feels giving back is far more important for her son.. After all they are close to her sister and far away from Mom. Mom has had some very rough times in life so this is her way of giving back for the blessings and paying forward for her son...

I know there are many places for presents in cities for children so those of you who are not in the great financial status, be sure to apply for your kids as many places as possible.
I used to go to 7 or 8 places and my kids had an ok christmas and never realized that we were poor. My youngest child remembers a christmas that we had no presents, no food and no warm place to be, sadly she never forgot it nor understood it, she is now 33 and does whatever it takes to make sure her son has presents under the tree.. and when she is working she works extra jobs to make sure he gets at least one gift he really wants, usually an expensive one like a psp...several years back...
We all have memories of good Holidays with family and or friends, I hope that all are blessed this year with very special holidays that bring much joy and blessings to all.

I am hoping she will let us know where she is staying so we can go for a visit with her... No phone yet. Have not made it to town for the pre-op labs and such so may have to put it off until i can get in to have them done. Talk on IM soon..
